Drama

Course description Stage 5 - Years 9 and 10

Students in a drama class.

Communicating ideas and information is pivotal to Drama and is undertaken creatively through performance, or may be presented in other oral, written or visual forms. Performing devised or scripted works, writing an essay or conducting a multimedia presentation are all part of everyday Drama practice. In Drama, students engage in an integrated study of the elements of drama through the practices of making, performing and appreciating. This is achieved within the context of a range of dramatic forms, performance styles, dramatic techniques and theatrical conventions.

Course description Stage 6 - Years 11 and 12

Drama is not just a subject for those wanting to pursue acting, the skills you acquire are important in all areas of life including:

  • Building self confidence
  • Communicating with people
  • Working as a team member
  • Using your imagination
  • Problem solving
  • Developing self discipline

     

You don’t need to have studied Drama in years 9 and 10 , however if you have, the skills you have learnt will be useful. Drama includes both Practical and Theoretical Components. All students must participate in the Group Performance for the HSC. Students work in a group of three to six and produce an original piece of theatre. Marks are based on both performance and structure. You must also present an Individual Project. This is negotiated between the student and the teacher.
